Ferrari teases a mysterious new hypercar as the storied Italian sports car maker prepares to accelerate into the EV age to adapt to tightening regulations and changing market conditions.
The Ferrari LaFerrari was the last flagship hypercar that the company made with the bespoke sports car not only bringing Ferrari into the hybrid vehicle market for the first time ever, but it was also designed to be the definitive Ferrari model with its name literally translating in English as “The Ferrari.” It’s V12 engine was no slouch and the incorporated hybrid system made the car even faster while also improving efficiency slightly.
However, the company’s next flagship hypercar promises to raise the stakes in Ferrari’s pursuit of performance with the company releasing a surprise teaser video highlighting the model before it makes its debut tommorow.
“Something is on the horizon”
Ferrari’s teaser video on Facebook doesn’t reveal too much with the Italian sports car maker saying that something is on the horizon with the car in question being hidden under a bright red car cover. The teaser video was also on Instagram but Ferrari quickly removed the video before we could get a link. That said, the mysterious car hidden under the cover appears to be purpose-built for speed with a large rear wing making its presence known in the video.
Look for the exterior styling to potentially go in a different direction from the LaFerrari with designers potentially placing a stronger emphasis on aerodynamics and functional details on the new flagship. This new styling could also potentially debut a new design language for Ferrari but until we see what’s under the cover and perhaps a view of the interior, we have to wait for more information to emerge to get a better sense of what Ferrari is up to with the new model.

Model to up the ante on electrification
With smaller powertrains rapidly becoming more prevalent in all aspects of the automotive market, Ferrari might pitch the V12 with its new hypercar possibly being powered by a smaller V6 engine. The V6 would be lighter than the twelve-cylinder and it would also allow Ferrari to rework the balance of the car to help it have better high-speed handling while also increasing efficiency at the same time.
The new model would also most likely continue to have a hybrid system equipped with the system potentially having some DNA from the brand’s racing cars. However, instead of one electric motor, the new model could have three of them with two of them being mounted at the front while a third one would be placed further back. These electric motors would not only help the new model make more power but also improve efficiency. That latter item is key as the Ferrari would be entering a European auto market where some major cities enacting congestion charges, and outright bans of combustion-powered vehicles. The electric motors would help the new model be allowed to be operated in those cities and allow Ferrari to comply with emissions regulations.
Look for all to be revealed on October 17th when the company will formally lift the cover and reveal what it has planned for the future.
