Jeep confirms that the Gladiator pickup will join its Wrangler SUV cousin in getting a PHEV 4xe variant as part of the brand’s broader plans for electrification.
The Jeep Wrangler and its pickup cousin the Gladiator are the figurehead models for Jeep with the duo representing the only way hardcore Jeep fans can get a package that’s designed to not only deliver maximum trail capability but also plenty of fun too.
But while both models have had a whole myriad of trims and variants over the past few years, the one exception that reigned true for the Gladiator was that it wasn’t invited to the 4xe club with that honor always being reserved for the Wrangler. Jeep is ending that though and confirmed that a 4xe version of the Gladiator will be making its appearance in 2025 to flesh out the 4xe lineup and expand the brand’s grip on PHEV sales.
Gladiator 4xe to follow the same core script
When the 2025 Gladiator 4xe makes its way to dealerships, it will not only be the third model in the 4xe family, but it will also help fill a void for the brand by placing the truck firmly on even ground with its SUV cousin. The Gladiator’s figurative membership card came via several statements that were posted on LinkedIn from Global CEO Antonio Filosa and North American Chief Bill Peffer. Prior to these statements, the last we heard about the Gladiator 4xe was when it was vaguely referenced by the UAW while it was detailing its new contract with Stellantis.
Look for the Gladiator 4xe to not change too much from its Wrangler twin with the model most likely sharing the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that sees duty in the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee PHEVs with the Gladiator also taking plenty of styling cues from the Wrangler version of the model. This familiarity is intentional with Jeep reps saying in the past that the 4xe models are designed to help potential customers feel comfortable about electrification while also providing a bridge between an ICE model and a pure EV.

Gladiator 4xe will help expand Jeep’s sales numbers.
Jeep is hoping that the Gladiator 4xe will continue to be a sales success like its two predecessors. The Wrangler 4xe is the best-selling plug-in hybrid in the U.S. and it has had that title since it first debuted back in 2021. The Grand Cherokee version is in second but look for the Gladiator to potentially knock it down to third due to its stronger pool of loyal customers as well as the Grand Cherokee’s need to appeal to buyers that want a more luxurious SUV versus an all-out fun machine like the Gladiator and Wrangler.
In addition, the Gladiator 4xe will also have plenty of electrified company when it makes its debut. The Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will be getting electrified versions in the same time period with fully electric variants appearing in 2027. The Wagoneer S will be appearing this fall with the EV promising to make over 600 hp and offer even more luxury. As for the Wrangler, it’s slated to get an EV and an extended-range version in 2028 with the Gladiator eventually following suit.
