Maserati brushes off talk of it being sold by announcing that it will be bringing a new sports car model to Pebble Beach. Mysterious model might be based on the existing MC20 supercar and would give brand another halo offering.
Rumors were swirling that Stellantis might be selling Maserati as the large conglomerate of brands is struggling to clean house after recording consistent declines in sales and demand. The company was forced to issue a clarification saying that Maserati wasn’t for sale despite the Italian luxury car brand not doing so well in overall vehicle sales.
Maserati is looking to the future though and it has confirmed that it will be bringing a new sports car model to the 2024 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in an attempt to bring the fight to rivals in the highly bespoke segment.
Details remain a mystery
Maserati’s cryptic press release didn’t reveal too many details about the new model but a teaser image the company provided suggests that the new car will have more race-inspired features under the skin including styling that might help it stand out better when viewed alongside some of its lesser brand mates.
Maserati also dropped a big hint in its release with this statement saying “From the outset of [the MC20’s] technical development, a racing evolution was envisaged that would come to life in two directions, with the track version and its road counterpart developed in close synergy.” This synergy becomes important when you consider that the MC20 already has a racing variant called the GT2 which was unveiled last summer. The GT2 proceeded to enter the racing circuit after its debut with Maserati reps saying that they have been pleased with how well it has been performing out on the track. As such, it would be safe to assume that what we could be looking at here is perhaps a street-legal version of this car with the teaser image confirming that the new model will get a reworked front bumper, additional venting, and a large carbon fiber front splitter.

Maserati to have strong presence at Pebble Beach
In addition to the unveiling of this mysterious performance car, Maserati will also have several other surprises in store for fans of the brand. They include the North American debut of the MC20 Icona which was inspired by the outrageous MC-12 supercar of the early 2000s as well as the MCXtrema which is a track-only version of the MC20 that was revealed alongside the Icona.
The new models will come at a crucial time for Maserati as the brand is preparing to embrace electrification. The Ghibli, Quattroporte, and the Levante have all ended production which now leaves the brand with three core models; The MC20, the Grecale, and the GranTurismo. This trio and their offshoots like the GranCabrio are expected to hold the fort in Maserati showrooms as the brand makes preparations for the next generation Quattroporte and the Levante. Both of these models will be all-electric but they have already seen delays which means the existing models will have to bear the weight of generating sales for alot longer.
