Better Late Than Never: Chevy Finally Launches Base and High-Performance Blazer EV Packages

by | October 3, 2024

Buyers finally have the opportunity to pick from the full line-up of Chevrolet Blazer EV trims, starting with the base front-drive package, all the way up to the 595-hp SS model.

When Chevrolet introduced the new Blazer EV it announced an unusually broad array of options, from a base front-wheel-drive model all the way up to the 595-horsepower all-wheel-drive SS. Problem was, when the bowtie brand actually launched sales late last year it only rolled out a handful of mid-range models.

Now, buyers on a budget, as well as those looking for extreme performance, will have their picks available, as well.

Chevy dealers are about to get the full range of Blazer EV trims, starting with a base FWD LT package carrying a sticker price of $45,995.

A broad line-up

Chevrolet Blazer EV Trims

Chevy now offers Blazer in four trims and a choice of front-, rear- and all-wheel-drive.

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV will be a particularly critical product for GM, revealing whether it really can win over the heart of the American automotive market with its new “Ultium” battery technology.

The Blazer EV will come in four separate trim packages, from the base 1LT up to the high-performance SS model. And, in a first-of-a-kind for any passenger vehicle, GM will offer three distinct powertrain configurations. This marks what appears to be the first time ever that buyers will have the choice of front-wheel-drive, rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive on a single product line.

This approach allows Chevy to offer an affordable version of Blazer with a modestly powered front motor for Snowbelt buyers on a budget. At the other extreme, the two-motor Blazer SS will blast out 557 horsepower and 684 pound-feet of torque, making it one of the most powerful EVs yet in the fast-growing mainstream midsize SUV segments.

The final trims finally arrive

Chevrolet Blazer EV SS

At 595 hp, the Blazer EV SS is one of the most powerful mainstream EVs now available.

For buyers, the problem was that Chevy initially limited availability to Blazer EV’s two mid-range trims.  The automaker wanted to focus on the high-volume models first, company officials explained, adding that the rest of the line-up would just be a matter of months behind.

What Chevy didn’t count on was the fact that the midsize battery-electric vehicle ran into some serious technical issues early this year, forcing the automaker to issue a Stop-Sale that delayed the entire program by quite a few months.

It’s only now beginning to deliver the LT and SS models to U.S. showrooms.

Here’s what Chevy is adding for the 2025 model-year:

  • The FWD Chevrolet Blazer EV makes 220 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque in front-drive LT trim. Range hasn’t been announced yet but it starts at $45,995;
  • The Chevrolet Blazer SS is available only in AWD configuration, with individual motors on each axle. They produce a combined 595 hp and 645 lb-ft. The SS starts at $61,995.

An AWD version of the LT bumps the numbers to 300 hp and 355 lb-ft. It delivers up to 283 miles per charge according to the EPA. And pricing starts at $48,995.

Note that existing Blazer models get a $1,200 price cut compared to 2024.

Chevy also adds new features and options for 2025, including a two-tone roof on LT and RS trims, and the hands-free Super Cruise system on LT and RS AWD versions. Super Cruise is standard on the SS.

All versions of the Chevrolet Blazer qualify for up to $7,500 in federal tax credits.

Have GM engineers heard of plug-in Hybrid?

    • Actually, Jim, sales have been far stronger and, for GM as a whole, EVs helped prop up a weak September. Same for a number of other automakers. EV demand was strong last month.
