Acura brings RSX nameplate back from the dead as an all-electric CUV to supercharge its transformation into all-electric brand.
Acura made it clear it was going all in on EVs with the company also shifting the bulk of its lineup to utility models in an attempt to blend two key market segments into one profitable combination.
The luxury brand remained tight lipped on what a future EV CUV could look like with the Performance SUV concept being more show car than a clear view of a production model when it appeared in Monterey. This stance is now changing with Acura not only confirming the return of the RSX nameplate, but also releasing a lone teaser image of the SUV.
RSX retains concept’s magic
The teaser image Acura release shows the rear of the RSX. A light wrap does little to obscure the fine details with the side profile getting chiseled curves and creases. The rear gets a unified light bar and the sloping rear roofline helps the RSX maintain an aggressive appearance.
The prominent catch here is this RSX is a CUV and while that fact of life may sour the mood of hardcore fans, it is the first production Acura model to use Honda’s “0” Series EV architecture and one of the first models to spearhead the start of production at Honda’s new EV Hub facility in Ohio.
“The nameplate pays homage to the Acura RSX with its coupe-like silhouette,” Acura’s assistant vice president of national sales, Mike Langel, said in a statement. “But it truly represents a forward-looking approach to fun-to-drive performance.”

Questions remain
Acura chose to keep other details about the RSX to itself but did confirm the model will be a performance EV. Range figures were not released either but look for the RSX to possibly mirror prior claims made by Honda with the model potentially getting up to 300 miles of range on a single charge with the 400-volt architecture potentially allowing the battery to get up to 80% charge in under 15 minutes.
Look for more information on the RSX to be revealed in the near future, but the RSX will be the first Acura to also come equipped with Honda’s ASIMO operating system which debuted at CES and is supposed to bring Level 3 eyes-off-the-road automated driving to consumers.
