Toyota routinely looks to separate its rough-and-ready TRD Pro from the pack with a specialty color. After several years of warm color choices in reds and oranges, designers decided to be cool, introducing Wave Maker, a lighter blue color that looks almost like a shade of teal.
The new color is available on TRD Pro models only, including the 4Runner, Tacoma, Tundra and Sequoia. It’s the 11thcolor the company’s selected for its off-road-focused vehicle portfolio.
“We had a few years of warm natural hues inspired by traditional landscapes like Terra and Mudbath as signature colors,” said Benjamin Jimenez, general manager at CALTY’s Ann Arbor location.
“With Wave Maker, we were inspired by unexplored areas of adventure including extreme territory and even beyond earth. “Wave Maker expresses an elemental spirit that evokes images of glacial depths and the thrill of new frontiers.”
Road to tradition

The new color is available on TRD Pro models only, including the 4Runner, Tacoma, Tundra and Sequoia.
The company says this particular color was developed by the CALTY Design team to tell a unique story of artistic vision as well as highlight the company’s efforts to be innovative as well as creative. It also marks a big shift in the color palette.
The company began choosing a specific color for the TRD Pro offerings in 2015, and it was dubbed inferno.
The blazing red was well received by consumers so Toyota officials continued to run with it. Previous colors have included Terra and Mudbath, with the latter being a potential outcome for a TRD Pro vehicle as much as a color.
The color is an upcharge, but pricing was released. The 2026 TRD Pro models should hit dealer lots this fall, officials noted.

Color History
Toyota’s CALTY design team chooses a “signature” color each year, hoping to highlight the characteristics that are part of the TRD Pro lineup. The group believes color is a language that can speak ideas, emotions, and, in the case of the TRD Pro vehicles, adventure.
Last year’s color was Terra, but selecting a hue that conveys what designers believe characteristics of the portfolio isn’t as easy it might seem.
“There are four different silhouettes, and they all share the same color,” Jimenez said in a previous interview, “so we need to ensure that it will look good on each vehicle.”
The process is a complex blend of analyzing market trends, understanding consumer insights and, most importantly, letting creative juices flow, the company noted. The selected color helps to create “an identity that embodies the TRD Pro drivers’ spirit of adventure and love of the outdoors.” These vehicles have worn a variety of colors, including 2016’s Quicksand, 2019’s Voodoo Blue and 2022’s Lime Rush.
