They’re the bread-and-butter product lines for General Motors. And the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban are getting major makeovers for 2025. The bestselling models in their respective segments roll out updated exterior and interior designs, new tech features, an upgraded diesel engine and enhancements meant to make it easier to tow trailers.
Chevy has some big updates in store for two of its biggest product lines, the 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban. And, in an unusual move, It’s showing off the two full-size models a year before they officially go on sale.
Both models get notable design revisions, both inside and out. There’s an upgraded Duramax diesel. The 2025 Tahoe and Suburban SUVs add a number of new tech features, starting with a bigger infotainment touchscreen, the new “Connected Camera” technology to help when towing, and the latest version of parent General Motors’ hands-free Super Cruise system.
Exterior Updates
“The updates on the 2025 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban make the industry’s best-selling full-size SUVs an ever-stronger option for our customers,” said Scott Bell, vice president, Chevrolet.
Visually, the two new SUVs won’t shock loyalists, but the changes do give the 2025 models a more modern and sophisticated appearance. There are now six trims for both Tahoe and Suburban and while they all feature new signature front lighting, each variant gets its own distinctive fascia and grille. The Premier and High Country models, for example, come standard with animated welcome and walk-away lighting.
A number of new wheel options have been added and now can be sized up to 24 inches.
Interior upgrades
Across the board, a new 17.7-inch infotainment screen comes standard, as does the 11-inch digital gauge cluster.
Other interior changes include a more driver-centric dashboard layout, a revised center console with more storage space and a built-in wireless smartphone charger, a new steering wheel design, and upgraded materials and textures, especially on high-line packages such as the RST and High Country packages.
Powertrain changes
Currently, Tahoe and Suburban share three engine options:
- The standard 3.0-liter V8 making 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque;
- A 6.2-liter V8 making 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque; and
- A 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 making 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.
All three engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
These engines carry over for 2025 — but the big news is that the diesel has gotten a number of revisions first seen on the Chevy Silverado 1500.
According to Chevy, these include a “retuned turbo compressor, along with new, higher-flow fuel injectors, revised piston-cooling oil jets, new steel pistons and improved temperature control features with the cooling system’s Active Thermal Management. These yield a 10% increase in horsepower and a 7.6% bump in torque, at 305 hp and 495 lb-ft, respectively.
Those upgrades could result in as much as a doubling of demand for the Duramax diesel over today’s offering, said Steve Majoros, Chevrolet’s chief marketing officer.
Towing
Chevy claims both light trucks boast improvements to their ride and handling due, for one thing, to their revised multilink independent rear suspension. An Air Ride Adaptive Suspension and Magnetic Ride Control carry over as options.
A sizable share of Tahoe and Suburban buyers use their vehicles to two, according to Chevy data, and that’s an area where the bowtie brand focused much of the development work for the 2025 makeovers.
They already offer a number of features meant to make it easier to attach and then pull a trailer, such as the Hill Descent Control and Blind Zone Steering Assist that come with the Max Trailering package.
For 2025, Chevrolet adds a handful of new features, including a Trailer Tire Health monitor to help prevent blowouts, Boat Ramp Assist and Trailer Navigation. The latter function can revise the recommended route based on trailer size, Chevy said.
The 2025 Tahoe will be equipped to tow as much as 8,400 miles, depending on the package, with Suburban rated at 8,000 pounds.
New Technology
Other new tech features include an interior motion detection system that can remind motorists when an animal or child has been left in the vehicle. It’s sensitive enough to detect the “micromovements” of even a newborn infant asleep in a child seat.
Chevy’s new Connected Cameras system expands upon the suite of cameras currently offered on Tahoe and Suburban. For 2025, they will be connected to the cloud through GM’s OnStar system, allowing drivers to check things remotely.
The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban will feature a new AutoSense Power Liftgate which will open automatically when it senses a key fob behind the vehicle for more than a few seconds.
And the new SUVs also will get GM’s latest Super Cruise technology which can be used hands-free on over 400,000 miles of U.S. and Canadian roadways. That includes the ability to now execute a pass automatically.
Availability and pricing
Both the 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet Suburban are set to roll off the line at GM’s Arlington, Texas assembly plant.
Production will begin around the third quarter of 2024, with the new model set to go on sale “late next year,” Chevy said.
Pricing will be revealed closer to the on-sale date.
