With Bentley’s June announcement of a hybrid 2025 Bentley Continental GT Speed, it’s hardly surprising that the same system would find its way into the Flying Spur . And, as it turns out, the British luxury marque has confirmed the sedan will add a PHEV drivetrain for 2025.
Bentley has outlined plans to evolve into an all-electric brand. But the process will involve several steps. The automaker took a big one earlier this year with the launch of the 2025 Bentley Continental GT Speed Plug-In Hybrid. That switch to hybrid power followed the end of production for the W12 engine used in the Flying Spur until this point.
Now, it’s time to move on to the next model, and Bentley has confirmed the 2025 Continental GT Speed will get a PHEV package, as well.
What we know
Bentley is expected to announce full details on the new model September 10th. The British automaker says that it will have an electric range of more than 45 miles, and an overall range of more than 500 miles. But those numbers are culled from Europe’s WLTP tests. Look for the EPA’s tests to bring both numbers close to reality.
The new sedan will have 771 horsepower and 739 pound-feet of torque, most likely from the 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, a 25.9-kWh battery pack and small electric motor used for the Continental.
A TURNING POINT
The company built its final 6.0-liter W12-cylinder engine in Crewe in July, after having built more than 100,000. The last W12-powered Bentayga, Continental GT and Flying Spur rolled out of Crewe, initiating the Luxury brand’s transition to V-8 hybrid powertrains.
Its passing was a bittersweet moment for the brand.
“The engine’s introduction helped change the face of the company almost overnight and so will go down in history as a true game changer and we should feel very proud to have designed, developed and manufactured such an icon in Britain for such a long period of time,” said Andreas Lehe, Member of the Board for Manufacturing at Bentley Motors.

Following Bentayga’s lead
But such a turning point was long expected, with the Bentayga Hybrid already on the market and the Continental Speed GT Hybrid coming soon.
While Volkswagen Group, Bentley’s owner, had planned to transform Bentley into a pure EV marque, it looks as if hybrids will play an interim role, with this driveline being used, with modifications, in other Volkswagen Group vehicles, including the Lamborghini Urus SE Plug-In Hybrid and the new Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.
Further details about the newest Flying Spur aren’t known, but should become clear when Bentley releases details next wheel.
