Lucid’s all-electric Gravity SUV, will start at $79,990, the start-up EV maker announced Tuesday, though fully-loaded top-trim models will push into six figures. The automaker’s second product line will begin production by year-end but will begin taking orders early next month.
It’s first offering, the Air sedan, has generated solid reviews but only marginal sales. Now, Lucid is betting it can build momentum with the launch of its second product line, the Gravity SUV.
With production set to begin by year end, the California-based start-up formally announced pricing for the all-electric Gravity on Tuesday, while revealing plans to open its order bank early next month.
At a base MSRP of $79,990 the 2025 Lucid Gravity Touring model undercuts the $81,630 starting price of the similarly sized Tesla Model X. Production is set to begin late this year with the more expensive package. The more affordable Touring trim will follow in 2025.
Lucid’s theory of Gravity
It’s been nearly three years since Lucid entered the market, the automaker debuting with the sleek Air sedan. The strategy was a controversial one, considering the declining demand for four-door models in the U.S. market. But, CEO Peter Rawlinson told Headlight.News, he wanted to start out with a visually brand-defining product and then expand Lucid’s line-up.
The Gravity SUV is next to market and is meant to take on the dominant player in its segment, the Texla Model X.
It will be offer in a variety of configurations, including two-row, five-seat and three-row, seven-seat cabins. There’ll be a number of different trim packages and, as with the Air sedan, buyers will have a variety of different powertrain options to choose from.
That could see see packages making as much as 1,000 horsepower – or more – and delivering in the mid-400 miles of range, depending upon the battery pack.
Gravity pricing
The base 2025 Lucid Gravity Touring model will carry a starting MSRP of $79,990. The automaker hasn’t confirmed delivery fees for the new model year but they should come in at or slightly above $1,000.
The Air sedan covers a broad range of price segments, from $71,400 to $250,500 for the ultra-high-performance Sapphire trim. How many versions of Gravity we’ll eventually see is uncertain, but the automaker did reveal that the Gravity Grand Touring package will come in at $94,900.
As has become commonplace in the EV market, Lucid will launch with the more expensive Grand Touring, production set to begin by year-end, with deliveries to commence early in 2025. The base Gravity Touring, Lucid said in a statement, “is planned for late 2025.
Buyers will be able to start placing orders for a number of different Gravity configurations on November 7th.

A critical entry
On the positive side, Lucid set a new sales record during the third quarter of this year, moving 2,781 of its Air sedans. For the first nine months of the year, deliveries totaled 7,142, up from 6,001 during the same period in 2023.
But production was actually down a bit during the latest quarter, and those rising sales required the automaker to discount most Air trim packages. The Air Grand Touring package currently carries $17,500 in discounts, for example.
Analysts are cautiously betting that Gravity will find a place in a broader market niche.
“There is a growing anticipation for Lucid Gravity’s unprecedented combination of versatility, performance, design, and all-around capability,” said Peter Rawlinson, CEO at Lucid. “This is uniquely enabled through our revolutionary technology. We look forward to bringing the world’s most advanced SUV to the world soon.”
Longer-term
While Gravity should help Lucid gain a bit more momentum than the original Air sedan, the new SUV still isn’t expected to put the automaker into the mainstream, not if the Tesla Model X is any indication. It’s sales have flattened out over the last several years, reflecting limited demand in the premium luxury segment.
For the long-term, Lucid is preparing to move down-market with a product line widely expected to be called the Earth SUV. It will go up against Tesla’s best-selling Model Y.
“We’re already competing with Tesla,” Rawlinson said during a May 2024 earnings call. “But, wait until our mid-size comes out in late ’26; that’s when we’ll have a car at $48,000-$50,000, and that is the big one, the one that’s going to be really exciting.”
