For those who’ve wanted to squeeze just a bit more performance and handling out of Ford’s Mustang Dark Horse, there’s a new version making its debut today, the Dark Horse SC. And you can push the supercharged pony car even further with the optional Track Pack, reports Headlight.News.
It’s been four years since Ford galloped out the Mustang Dark Horse, its first all-new performance package in more than two decades. It’s now ready to introduce an update.
The 2026 Mustang Dark Horse SC takes things to a new level, especially if you opt for the Track Pack with its carbon fiber wheels, carbon-ceramic brakes and aerodynamic features designed to deliver maximum downforce.
Developed by the automaker’s Ford Racing operations, the Dark Horse SC features a supercharged version of the automaker’s 5.2-liter V-8. For the moment, we’ll have to wait to get final production specs – but the Ford team hints we’ll see an upgrade from the current pony car’s 500 horsepower.
Galloping ahead
Mustang has long been seen as belonging to a class of one – or, perhaps two or three if you add the likes of the Dodge Charger and the now-abandoned Chevrolet Camaro. But, with Dark Horse, Ford officials toss around competing names like BMW and even Porsche.
“Since we introduced Dark Horse in ’22 and Mustang GTD in ’23, we’ve established Mustang as a performance brand that can take on the world’s best,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Racing. “Mustang Dark Horse SC is the next chapter, drawing on lessons from Mustang GT3 and technology and learnings from Mustang GTD. It demonstrates exactly how Ford Racing is bringing our race and road operations together.”
The 2026 SC actually comes as an expansion of the Dark Horse family and it will be offered with an optional Track Pack, as well a low-volume special edition.
What’s New for 2026
The headline news is the fact that the SC migrates from the familiar 5.0-liter naturally aspirated Coyote V-8 in the originally Dark Horse package to Ford’s 5.2-liter supercharged V-8. We’re anxious to learn the specs – which are now being finalized – but there’s little reason to doubt the SC will substantially build on the five-oh package’s 500 hp and 418 lb-ft. That package can hit 60 in as little as 3.7 seconds with its automatic gearbox, 4.1 seconds with the manual.
There are plenty of visual changes to the supercharged Dark Horse meant to increase its “grit, aggression and attitude,” said lead designer Aaron Walker. But he also stressed that those changes – such as the lower, wider front air intakes and the big rear wing – are all about “form as function.”
They allow for better engine breathing and cooling, as well as improved aerodynamics. At extreme speeds, the Track Pack can deliver up to 620 pounds of downforce to keep the Dark Horse pinned to the track.

Power and grip
The list of upgrades, beyond the supercharged engine, is substantial:
- Updated Magneride dampers and firmer spring settings;
- Plenty of other suspension upgrades, including stiffer stabilizer bars, modified front control arms and forged suspension links;
- A lightweight magnesium strut tower brace;
- A five-stage traction control system that can be tuned to a driver’s skill level – or turned off completely
“This is a dream car from a career standpoint,” said Arie Groeneveld, the chief program engineer.
Interior and exterior design
The look of the Dark Horse SC “is really sinister,” Walker said during a media sneak peek earlier this week. That’s true of both versions, though the pinstripes on the Track Pack take things a step above.
Buyers can choose from a variety of options, including a carbon fiber exterior pack that adds to the CF details even the “base” SC boasts, adding that touch to the front and rear fascia and mirror caps. You can pick from three different colors for the big brake calipers, as well as give hues available for the seatbelts.
The SC picks up the flat-bottomed steering wheel from the king-of-the-hill Mustang GTD, as well as Alcantara and cf interior details. The Track Pack, meanwhile, deletes the rear sets, replacing them with a lighter storage shelf. This version is serious about going racing and provides you the added support of Recaro seats.
For those who want something even more exclusive, there’s a limited-run version of the Track Pack that adds a black roof, unique graphics, red brake calipers and even a 3D-printed bezel on the center console’s dial. That package will be offered only in Shadow Black or Oxford White, with Solar Red seat accents.
