Stellantis proves that it’s still serious about performance and custom thrills with trio of debuts at SEMA
Stellantis may be going through a rough patch when it comes to slumping sales and increased tensions with the UAW and its dealers but the automotive giant is out to prove that it still takes performance and catering to the needs of customers very seriously. While the Mopar brand and its seemingly endless lineup of accessories are the most visible aspects of this commitment in action, the company’s annual trip to SEMA is another glimpse of what it has in store for customers.
This year’s show is no different with the company bringing three concept vehicles to the show with the trio promising to push Stellantis performance in several unique directions while also previewing potential accessories that might find their way into the Mopar catalog in the near future.
Mopar Ram 1500 RHO and Ram 2500 Power Wagon Concepts Lead The Way
The first two concepts that the company chose to bring to the show come from the Ram truck brand but the brand link is the only thing that the two have in common with engineers moving the concepts in two different directions. The Mopar Ram 1500 RHO concept starts life as a base RHO model in Diamond Black but Mopar gave the bedsides Mopar Blue body graphics with the pattern being made up of graduated Mopar M logos that accent the fenders. These fenders house 37-inch tires that are wrapped in 18×9-inch beadlock wheels. The bed of the truck houses a spare tire on an integrated bed carrier and the Mopar RamBar houses 12-inch TYRI LED lights. The interior gets blue accents with the Nappa leather front and rear seats getting custom touches by Alea. The dashboard houses a small rail that allows occupants to securely mount their phone or GoPro camera to it to help get epic shots when you’re out in the dunes.
The Ram 2500 Power Wagon concept on the other hand trades insane performance for workplace capability. This concept is powered by the Power Wagon’s 6.4-liter Hemi V8 and gets a slick shade of Stain Stealth Sand paint with Matte Black accents providing contrast. The truck also has a tougher stance with the look being achieved by 35-inch tires mounted on black 20×10 Anthracite Grey Alpha wheels on the existing suspension. A front-mounted Warn winch helps the concept get out of trouble on the trail and the bed gets an active cargo rack storage system from Leitner Designs that features eight GearPODS mounted on the bed sides. This setup adds additional storage but without sacrificing the bed floor with the bed itself getting a drop-in bedside management system.
The interior gets custom brown and black Katzkin leather seats trimmed with Mango and Raven accented suede accents. The seatbacks get the Mopar M logo embossed into them and the concept also gets the instrument panel-mounted accessory rail with the rear seats also getting Mopar’s under-seat storage system. Stainless steel pedal covers and rugged Mopar rubberized floor mats help round out the package.

GTX restomod provides glimpse into electrified muscle car market
The third and final concept that Mopar is bringing to SEMA is an electrified GTX restomod concept which shines a light on arguably one of the more controversial aspects of electrification. When asked why they chose the GTX instead of a Charger or Challenger, Mopar reps said that they wanted to do something different and also go at it in a way few saw coming. The exterior styling of this concept was meant to turn heads with the Frostbite Blue paint complimenting the lowered look that the designers were trying to achieve. Dual satin-black stripes are a subtle nod to the original GTX
The rear wheel openings were widened and the front and rear bumpers were shaved to allow them to be tucked into the bodywork in an attempt to improve aerodynamics. The concept also comes with a custom carbon-fiber hood with dual functional air intakes to help keep the EV components cool under spirited driving conditions. The front splitter is also made out of carbon fiber and the designers even paid homage to the classic flip-top fuel filler doors of the 1960s and 70s with the trick piece hiding the charging port when it’s not in use. The bodywork conceals a 400-volt, 250-kilowatt electric drive module with the EDM being attached to the frame by customized motor mounts. The setup here is related to the Charger EV Daytona’s but power here is dialed back a bit with the concept producing 335 hp for improved usability. Four battery packs provide the juice with three of them being mounted in a special aluminum frame in the trunk while the fourth one is located in the front to help improve weight distribution.
The interior gets custom analog gauges that are mounted in a custom bezel with the old three-spoke rounded steering wheel being replaced with a three-spoke flat-bottomed unit. The blue door cards get bronze accents and also feature manual crank windows to help trim weight while the front seats are replaced with more supportive thrones. The rear seats get a true 2+2 layout with the center-mounted seating position being axed to help achieve a custom look. A rotary gear shifter and a handy cupholder work well with the newly added armrest.
