Ford addresses the F-150’s theft problem with the rollout of several new security features and an included insurance deductible as the company clamps down on rising thefts across the nation.

Ford revealed that it intends to reign in a growing theft problem with the F-Series by offering new security features and a reimbursement program.
The Ford F-Series is one of the most popular vehicles in America with the truck appealing to buyers looking for ruggedness, luxury, and value in a sensible package. This trio of traits has allowed the truck to become an American icon and leave an enduring legacy in the automotive world that is unmatched.
Unfortunately, many of these potent selling points are also popular with a growing number of thieves who are more than happy to skip the whole dealing with the dealership part and are willing to instead steal the trucks from customers and sometimes Ford themselves in brazen thefts that see the trucks literally being swiped straight out of factory lots. Ford is out to change that with several new security features and an insurance deductible designed to give customers more confidence in making sure their purchase stays secure.
Ford’s Security Package makes it harder for thieves to steal your ride

Raptor models have been the target of choice for thieves but other F-150 models have also been swiped.
Ford’s solution is a two-part package with the company offering a new “Ford Security Package” which equips the truck with a number of security features to harden its defenses against thieves. One feature is a new Start Inhibit function which digitally locks down the truck preventing thieves from starting the truck even if they managed to get the key for the vehicle out of the house. The lockdown can be deactivated by owners if they input a one-time 12-digit code into the infotainment screen.
A prominent catch here is that in order for the package to work, owners must have an active account with the FordPass app which is $7.99 a month. However, the first year of service is free. This feature will make it harder for thieves to steal the trucks from customers but it remains to be seen if Ford will use it on trucks in factory lots with these trucks (Raptors in particular) being juicy targets for thieves with several brazen heists in recent years showing just how far thieves are willing to go to swipe one for themselves. The package only works on ICE-powered models so F-150 Lightning owners are out of luck this time around.

Ford also offers insurance deductible, plans to expand to other vehicles

Ford also revealed that it will expand the Security Package and reimbursement program to other models including the Ford Explorer.
In the event that a thief still manages to find a way to steal the truck, For is also offering a $2,500 insurance deductible reimbursement for owners if their truck hasn’t been recovered or if the vehicle was damaged by the thieves. Like the Security Package, this reimbursement is only available for owners of gasoline-powered models including their hybrid cousins.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Ford plans to expand the Security Package to other vehicles. Ford also says it could expand the insurance deductible reimbursement offer to more states. This expansion is a response to trends in vehicle theft and while the F-150 and all of its derivatives continue to be the top target for thieves other models like the Ford Explorer have also been hit by thefts
