Ford teases the 2025 Expedition as the Blue Oval follows up on the recently updated Lincoln Navigator with updates of its own for the iconic family hauler.
The dust is still settling on the recent unveiling of the updated 2025 Lincoln Navigator, but while the big SUV served as a vivid preview of what full-size luxury buyers could expect from the full-sized SUV, it also served as a veiled preview of similar updates to its Ford badged cousin the Expedition. The Expedition has been a strong seller for Ford but age was starting to slowly catch up to the big family hauler as it struggled to fend off rivals like the Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon.
The company is now giving the SUV the refresh that it rightfully deserves with a lone teaser image revealing that big changes are coming to the SUV as Ford prepares to move the Expedition into the modern age with new styling and technology.
New front end gets revised lighting, borrows a few tricks from the Navigator
Ford’s lone teaser image on X focused on the front end with the image confirming that the 2025 model will get a new strip of daytime running lights that will not only frame the front grille but also the headlights too. The headlights themselves look slimmer than before and the lower bumper also gets a redesign to make it look sportier. The look as a whole allows the Expedition to fall in line with other refreshed models like the Ford Super Duty and it should also allow the SUV to visually stand out better on dealer lots.
With the Expedition being a less expensive version of the Navigator, look for some of that model’s features to bleed through to the Expedition. That includes the split-level tailgate that debuted on the Navigator with higher trims also potentially getting the same suspension setup as the big Lincoln. The rear lighting will also get reworked but expect Ford designers to add their own revisions to the design to not only meet the Expedition’s lower price point but also enhance the sportier theme that the big SUV is trying to project.

Expedition interior to also get overhauled
In addition to the exterior, the interior of the 2025 Expedition is also expected to be overhauled. Ford didn’t release any pictures of the cabin but expect the space to also benefit from some of the Lincoln’s inner charms. One item that will not be present though is the large 48-inch panoramic display with the Expedition most likely replacing its old portrait-style system with a smaller model-specific panoramic setup that will house physical buttons just below it. This change will help the Expedition stay on point when it comes to pricing while also allowing the big SUV to fully benefit from the “Digital Experience” feature that’s just now slowly starting to seep into Ford’s vehicle lineup.
Performance for the 2025 Expedition will most likely continue to come from a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 which also sees duty in the Navigator. A 10-speed automatic will continue to be the lone transmission but it will be interesting to see how much power the engine makes in the 2025 model since the outgoing 2024 model had figures that ranged between 380 to 440 hp depending on what optional packages were equipped to it. The answers to these questions and more will be revealed on October 3rd when Ford will formally unveil it.
Let me guess, it’ll be a box, a really big box.
