Porsche unveils special one-off Panamerica 718 Spyder RS as the company not only pays tribute to its racing past but also to the 718 itself with the company recently confirming the 718 Cayman and Boxter will bow out of production in the middle of next year.
Porsche is preparing to close the book on 718 Cayman and Boxter production as the German performance car maker shifts its focus into electrification and expanding its presence in the SUV segment which often comes at the expense of slow-selling niche models like coupes and convertibles. In Porsche’s case that meant giving the Cayman and the Boxster the axe while sparing the iconic Porsche 911.
However, before the duo cruise on off into retirement, Porsche is taking care of some final pieces of unfinished business. One of these is completing a trilogy of tribute models that pay homage to Porsche’s victory in the 1954 Panamerica race with the unveiling of the 718 Spyder RS Panamerica Special a one-off that will be crossing the auction block to benefit charity.
Completing the trilogy
The appearance of this one-off Spyder helps Porsche bookend a trilogy of Panamerica-themed models that it created a few years ago with the first two being based on the 718 Cayman GT4 RS. These models paid homage to an earlier running of the race and were numbered 152 and 154 respectively. However, this new model pays homage to the 1954 event which saw Porsche get the checkered flag at the event in a 550 Spyder which won first in is class and third overall at the event.
This modern tribute gets a graphics package that’s similar to what we saw on the first two tributes but this new one gets the number 55 on both of its doors and the engine cover with Porsche also choosing to photograph the stylish tribute model with the top down to further highlight its sporty lines. Silver paintwork matches the original 550’s hue and Carmine Red stripes on the rear fenders help provide splashes of contrast to the car’s lines. Watch maker TAG Heuer is partnering with Porsche on this model and their logo is prominently included on the hood.
The interior gets red seats and a matching steering wheel with the headrests getting Carrera Panamerica embroidered logos. The black interior also matches the original 550 and the puddle lights show two different images with the Mexican flag on the left and a 550 Spyder silhouette on the right.

A watch is included, but prepare to bid for it.
The TAG Heuer connection goes beyond a mere logo with the watchmaker also providing a special limited edition watch to go along with the car. While the car itself is a one-off, TAG will be releasing 255 examples of the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillion x Porsche Panamericana watch. A special watch mount is also included in the Spyder to help keep the bespoke timepiece secure when the owner is out and about driving.
Unlike most Porsche special edition models that are often sold out before customers have a chance to buy them, this tribute model can be purchased by a customer but only if they have a big enough check to do it. That’s because the one-off tribute will not be sold at a dealership or go to a special customer but will instead cross the block at a future auction next year. Porsche says the proceeds from the auction will go to benefit non-profit charity organizations in Latin America.
