At first glance it may not look like Ford has done much to the 2027 F-150. But a closer inspection reveals plenty of updates, including more V-8 options, more affordable entry packages, and a big upgrade to the hands-free BlueCruise system. Visual changes to the 2027 Ford F-150 are modest.
No nameplate is more important to Ford than its best-selling F-Series and the F-150 line is getting some significant updates for the 2027 model year.
From a visual standpoint the full-size truck gets an updated grille and some new wheel designs. Ford is also expanding its tie-up to well-known workwear brand Carhartt. But most of the focus is on the things that really matter to truckers.
That starts with some big powertrain updates, including a new EcoBoost-powered base model and, at the other extreme, more expanded V-8 availability. Ford also has a welcome update to its hands-free BlueCruise system which now will be usable while towing.
What’s new
A V-8 option is now available on all 2027 F-150 trims.
One of the most important developments isn’t directly related to the 2027 model year. Ford has been struggling to roll out enough F-Series trucks since a September 2025 fire at a Michigan supplier plant providing key aluminum components for the truck. Ford officials said they’re pretty much back on track with production and rebuilding inventory even before the launch of the new model year.
The changes for 2027 reflect some of the realities of the U.S. new vehicle market, notably the rapid run-up in prices over the past decade. Among other things, Ford is launching new base versions of the Tremor and Raptor off-road trims that should be a bit easier on the wallet.
Powertrain updates are at the heart of the changes for 2027, however, and that includes a new base V-6 engine, as well as expanded availability of V-8s.
The revised BlueCruise system, meanwhile, should be welcome news for those who tow – and that’s a significant share of F-150 owners.
Revised powertrain plan
The powertrain updates start at the “affordable” end of the F-150 line-up. For 2027, Ford is dropping the 2.7-liter twin-turbo V-6 and replacing it with a gutsier EcoBoost alternative. The twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 actually produces the same 325 hp and 400 lb-ft as the old engine but peak torque comes on at just 2250 RPMs, rather than 3500, making for better launch feel, especially when towing.
In the V-8 category, meanwhile, there are no changes to hardware. The big news is availability. As the rival Ram brand learned the hard way, there are plenty of truck buyers who simply won’t go for anything that isn’t powered by eight cylinders. So, for 2027, customers can opt for the 5.0-liter V-8 on high-line King Ranch and Platinum trims, the first time they’ve had that package available since 2023.
That means a V-8 option will be available across the 2027 Ford F-150 line-up. But Ford will still offer its PowerBoost hybrid and 3.5-liter EcoBoost engines in the new model year.

Hands-free cruising
The upgraded BlueCruise system can now go hands-free while towing.
Ford was one of the first automakers to introduce hands-free operation with the BlueCruise system it launched in 2021. The automaker claims the feature gets more use on the F-150 than any other model in its line-up.
There’s been a problem, however. Until now, BlueCruise hasn’t kept pace with the competing Super Cruise system offered by General Motors. On its Chevrolet and GMC pickups owners can use the technology even while towing.
Considering 75% of F-150 owners tow, according to Ford, the automaker intends to close that gap when the 2027 F-150 reaches showrooms early next year. On over 130,000 miles of divided highways, BlueCruise will now be operable while towing up to 10,000 pounds. The system will operate at speeds up to 75 mph – 5 mph slower than when activated without a trailer. The updated BlueCruise won’t be able to do automatic lane changes when trailering. And it will require a driver to retake control in a construction zone.
Carhartt and other new trim options
A Carhartt package is available for the first time on the F-150.
Off-road ready packages have become increasingly popular with pickup buyers – and Ford appears to be betting demand would grow even higher if costs were contained. That’s leading it to introduce new base versions of the Tremor and Raptor trims.
The Tremor version swaps out its dual-zone climate control for a manual system, for one thing, gives up heated front seats and off-road running boards and gets a downgraded Bang & Olufsen sound system. The base Raptor loses its head-up display, fog lamps and power-adjustable steering wheel, among other changes.
In a separate move, the F-150 will now be available with a new Carhartt package, following on the debut of that option for the 2026 Super Duty truck. Beyond the requisite Carhartt logos, the new trim gets 20-inch wheels, Tremor-based headlights and hood, a spray-in bedliner and 2-tone cloth upholstery. The package is available only on the 4X4 XLT Crew Cab for $4,195.
The 2027 F0rd F-150 starts at $42,630, including delivery fees, for the base XL trim, while the heavily loaded Platinum package starts at $71,595.
