Genesis will debut a mid-cycle makeover to two of its most popular models: the midsize GV70 and the Electrified GV70. But a handful of folks got a chance to check the sibling SUVs out during a sneak peek ahead of this week’s Los Angeles Auto Show.
The Genesis family may be growing but the GV70 and its near-twin Electrified GV70 remain the most critical products in the Korean luxury brand’s line-up. It’s no surprise then, that the automaker pulled the covers on updates to both the gas and battery-powered crossovers in time for this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show.
These are what industry types like to call a “mid-cycle refresh,’ meaning the changes are modest. But they’re still noteworthy and likely to be well-received. These include tweaks to exterior and interior designs and, for the Electrified GV70, a larger battery pack that will translate into improved range.
“GV70 is our most popular model in North America,” noted Claudia Marquez, the chief operating officer for Genesis Motor North America. “The newly redesigned GV70 and Electrified GV70 offer all of the utility and refinement of a great SUV without sacrificing the fun-to-drive character that Genesis vehicles are known for.”
What’s new for 2025.
The original, gas-powered GV70 debuted in 2021 and was a critical addition to what was then a narrow line-up consisting of just two sedans – not a great situation in an industry rapidly shifting to CUVs and SUVs. Add the all-electric package and Genesis so far has sold 85,000 of the SUVs in North America.
The refreshed models will retain some of their most distinctive features, including the quad, strip-like head and taillights, as well as the “G-matrix crest” grille. But there’s a bolder new front skidplate, larger air intakes on the gas version and new 19 and 21-inch wheels. A revised accent line flows off the hood and down across the doors. The 2025 Genesis Electrified GV70 gets a new, power-operated front charge port door.
The most notable interior update is the switch to a bigger, 27-inch OLED display. With its subtle curve, the horizontal screen combines both driver’s gauge cluster and infotainment touchscreen.
Powertrains
As before, Genesis offers several powertrain alternatives:
- The gas-powered GV70 carries over a base 2.5-liter inline turbo-four producing 300 horsepower;
- The upgrade is a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 bumping output up to 375 hp;
- And the alternative is an all-electric package drawing power from twin electric motors to produce 429 hp – with a “Boost Mode” briefly taking that up to 483 hp.
During a media sneak peek ahead of the public debut of the GV70 line, Genesis officials revealed that the Electrified model will now get an 84-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, replacing the original 77.4-kWh pack. In that form it delivered up to 298 miles range, according to the EPA. Final numbers haven’t been released but this should boost range to somewhere north of 310, and possibly 320 miles per charge.

Upgraded luxury and tech features
One of the most notable changes for the 2025 Electrified GV70 is the switch to the Tesla-style NACS charging port. It will be one of, if not the, first EV to make that changeover, allowing it to access the rival manufacturer’s extensive Supercharger network. The Genesis model will come with an adapter allowing it to continue plugging into older CCS chargers.
Luxury brands can’t stand still. Genesis claims to have added or upgraded numerous features, including its voice recognition system and over-the-air update capabilities. There’ve been updates to the Gensis Digital Key and Smart Key technologies, as well.
A new Terrain Mode makes it easier, Genesis claims, to adjust vehicle settings for various road conditions, such as snow or mud. And new advanced driver assistance systems have been added, such as Lane Following Assist and an upgraded Remote Smart Parking Assist.
Pricing and availability
Expect to see both the 2025 Genesis GV70 and 2025 Genesis Electrified GV70 models reach U.S. showrooms during the first half of 2025, the automaker said.
Notably, there’ll be more Genesis dealerships for buyers to turn to. The brand recently opened its 60th standalone showroom, though there are still a number of Hyundai dealers still handling Genesis in some markets.
Pricing has yet to be announced. The 2024 Genesis GV70 currently starts at $46,500 with the 2.5-liter turbo-four engine. The Sport model, with the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 has a base MSRP of $58,850. And the 2024 Electrified GV70 starts at $67,800.
