MINI Teases Two JCW Models, Confirms EVs Will Be Only Vehicles At Its Booth

by | October 8, 2024

MINI confirms that two JCW EVs will be making their debut at the Paris Motor Show as the brand says it’s bringing only EV models to its booth at the 2024 Paris Motor Show.

Mini confirms it will be bringing two JCW EV models to 2024 Paris Motor Show.

The 2024 Paris Motor Show is fast approaching and MINI is preparing to expand its presence in the EV market. While the Aceman, Cooper, and Countryman EVs have helped the brand form a spearhead into the market, all three of these models are not exactly known for their performance character nor their ability to deliver the goods when it comes to performance driving.

The JCW brand is aiming to bridge that gap with MINI confirming that it will be bringing not one but two EVs to the show signaling that it intends to move aggressively into the performance EV market with some of the lessons that will be learned on the track potentially bleeding into the rest of the EV lineup too.

JCW models will create EV only display for MINI

The pair of JCWs will spearhead a bold move by MINI with the brand also confirming it will be bringing only its EV models to the show.

The two JCW EVs will have plenty of pressure on their shoulders since they will be part of a booth that will be purely electrified with MINI saying that it’s only bringing its EV lineup to the show with the brand choosing to bench its ICE-powered lineup this time around. Mini’s remarks also don’t reveal too much about the two models but we know one of them will be a reworked version of the standard Cooper SE.

That was confirmed not only through prior teaser photos (including an ill-timed leak from the Chinese patent office) but also from Mini itself with the brand saying that the new JCW will “offer a new dimension of performance, combining instant torque with the refined agility that defines the JCW brand.” Look for that promise to make itself known when it comes to torque and handling with the EV version having just as much track capability as the ICE-powered JCW.

Second JCW model is a mystery

It remains to be seen what the second JCW model will be but the Aceman EV is one possible suspect.

Unlike the Cooper JCW, the second JCW EV that the brand will bring is a complete mystery with their brief statement not confirming what it is. An EV version of the Countryman JCW seems to make the most sense since that model already has an ICE-powered version for performance buyers to enjoy. Adding it in would be relatively simple since the CUV also has an EV variant of its own called the SE All4.

However, the recently unveiled Aceman is also a prime suspect for the second slot too. Unlike the Countryman, the Aceman is only available as an EV, and MINI has been pretty quiet when asked about whether the stylish EV would even be considered for a JCW conversion. If the Aceman does get the JCW treatment, it would not only give the model a range-topping halo version but also a potent piece of bait for MINI dealers to draw customers in. This tactic has proven itself over the years with halo models often helping to increase sales of other models in the lineup in a trickledown effect.
