Much like the update on the Model 3 last year, the new look for the Model Y in China is evolutionary on outside with upgrades keeping with consumer demand on the inside.
Pricing on the new model starts at just under $36,000 in China, which is about 5% higher than the previous model, according to a Reuters report. The new version is set to arrive in China in March with the company taking orders for other Asian markets as well.
The EV maker has not said if that new version will be the next-gen Model Y in the U.S. or Europe. However, the updated Model 3 also made its debut in China before coming to western markets last year.
Something familiar
Like the new Model 3, the updated Model Y gets a softer look than its predecessor. Additionally, it pulls a big styling cue from another popular Tesla vehicle —the Cybertruck. Like the newest Tesla model, the updated Model Y features a lightbar across the front fascia. The taillight is also a single bar across the back.
Other upgraded features, according to Reuters, include seats that can be heated or ventilated for comfort in all weather conditions as well as a touchscreen for second-row passengers. Additionally, range improves slightly for the long-range version of the next-gen model to about 445 miles.
The Model Y is the world’s best-selling electric vehicle; however, Tesla’s also focusing on bringing a new smaller, less expensive vehicle to the market, as well as the long-awaited second-gen Roadster as well as the recently introduced self-driving vehicles.
