Volvo Brings Electrification To The Backwoods With 2026 EX30 Cross Country

Volov brings electrification to the Cross Country lineup with the 2025 EX30 Cross Country

Volvo is bringing electrification to the road less traveled with the 2026 EX30 Cross Country.

Volvo is serious about electrifying its vehicle lineup with the Swedish luxury car maker investing large amounts of time and money into electrifying its vehicle lineup with the company currently wielding a strong lineup of plug-in hybrid models and several EVs including the compact EX30. However, a notable omission has been its Cross Country lineup of rugged trail-focused wagon models with all of these offerings being powered by ICE powertrains with no EV versions anywhere in sight.

Volvo is just now beginning to change the narrative on that and has formally unveiled the first EV in the Cross Country family, the 2025 Volvo EX30 Cross Country. This pint-sized EV is a spearhead for what’s to come as other electrified Cross Country models slowly begin to emerge over the next few years.

Big things come in small packages on EX30 Cross Country

The Cross Country gets several trail ready upgrades including body cladding and meaty all-terrain tires.

Unlike other automakers Volvo didn’t choose its biggest vehicle model for the honor of being the first ever electrified Cross Country model. Instead, Volvo thought small and gave the honor to the entry-level EX30. Like other Cross Country models, the EX30 retains the core theme of its source material when it comes to exterior design but the Cross Country gets more blacked-out accents including black cladding on the wheel arches and a blacked-out piece on the grille panel that gets a topographic etching of the Kebnekaise mountain range in Arctic Sweden. All Cross Country models get 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires with the rear of the SUV also getting the blackout treatment.

The interior is carried over from the standard EX30 but it gets minor trim and feature differences to help the Cross Country stand out from the rest of the lineup. Volvo did confirm that all models get 18-inch alloy wheels with the wheels being shod in all-terrain tires. Volvo says the EX30 Cross Country is for “weekend Explorers” and that’s apparent with its slight suspension lift with the company giving the model an extra 0.7 inches of ground clearance as well as the handy roof basket for hauling bulky cargo and gear.

Cross Country has plenty of range for any occasion

The interior is carried over from other EX30 variants but it gets its fair share of Cross Country exclusive features to make it stand out.

Volvo didn’t release any formal EPA estimates for range, but confirmed the model can go up to 265 miles on a single charge according to the WTLP cycle with all CC’s getting a dual-motor powertrain that makes a combined system output of 422 hp with the juice being provided by a 69 kWh battery pack. Volvo says the Cross Country can go from 10 to 80% charged in under 30 minutes when hooked up to a DC fast charger.

Volvo didn’t release final pricing for the Cross Country but look for it to command a noticeable premium over a base EX30 with buyers in the U.S. just now getting deliveries of the EV after Volvo was forced to delay the rollout of the model due to the company making numerous changes to it to resolve lingering quality issues. A base Twin Motor Performance starts at just over $46,000 so look for the Cross Country to start at over $50,000 before any fees and options are tacked on. The 2026 EX30 Cross Country is expected to make its way to U.S. showrooms later this year.

Volvo also revealed that it will be spicing up the experience for interested buyers by giving them the opportunity to rent a fully-equipped cabin in Sweden’s Lapland region to experience the winter conditions that inspired the model. An EX30 Cross Country will be waiting for them when they arrive and the company will even have a full slate of outdoor activities planned to help provide a full winter driving experience.
