Toyota Teases All-New EV, Says It Will Be “Exciting and Surprising”

by | February 25, 2025

Toyota says its upcoming all-new EV will be “exciting and surprising” as the Japanese auto giant prepares to reveal it next month.

Toyota teased an all-new EV model via its Youtube channel.

Toyota may be putting a strong focus on hybrid and plug-in hybrids, but the company is still not giving up on EVs with the Japanese auto giant taking a calculated approach to the introduction of EVs in its lineup. While the bZ4X is off to a sluggish start in terms of sales, the company is still out to show that it can flesh out its EV lineup.

The company used the opportunity to tease an all-new EV model saying that it will be “exciting and surprising” as the company appears to be bringing the BZ concept into production in an attempt to jumpstart sales of its EV lineup.

Toyota says new model will be more appealing

The new mnodel was hidden in shadows but we suspect its a production version of the 2022 bZ concept.

Toyota chose to keep detailed images to itself, and instead, released a lone teaser image of the model with shadows hiding the bulk of its side profile. However, the lighting and the roofline are still visible and it appears that this new model will be a production version of the bZ concept which first appeared in 2022. The concept was supposed to preview an elevated CUV with the model featuring sleek styling including hidden rear door handles, a full-width lightbar in the rear, and a front fascia with stylish headlights and a bold face.

Some of these items are reminiscent of the CH-R but the bZ would potentially be placed below the bZ4X which would allow the lineup to have an affordable gateway model for buyers to flock to before possibly moving higher up the bZ range later on. Toyota is rumored to be abandoning its bZ-based naming strategy and this new model would be renamed but it remains to be seen if the company will bring an old name like the CH-R back or if it will instead go for an all-new moniker.

When will we see it?

The new model could debut a new naming scheme with Toyota reportedly ditching the existing bZ moniker for its EV models.

Toyota’s announcement appeared to confirm the new model will be making its debut on March 11th. We look forward to seeing more detailed photos of the model then with the mystery EV potentially retaining the stylish 21-inch wheels and dual-charging ports that were first seen on the concept. The interior would also be filled with technology including a large infotainment screen which would be the hub of many of the EVs features.

A big question that remains unanswered is where the new model will exactly be sold? Toyota’s release didn’t reveal too many details about that but chances are good that this model could start out as an international market model aimed at European customers. However, since the original concept debuted at the L.A. Auto Show back in 2022 a version made for our market could eventually appear though the threat of tariffs might provide some extra challenges for Toyota when it comes to bringing the model to our shores in a way that would avoid the sting of these beefed-up tariffs if they were to come into effect.
