A Week With: 2026 Land Rover Range Rover P400 SE SWB

by | October 9, 2026

As of June, Land Rover sales were up 1.7% from 2025, which was a record year for the storied marque, even with the Cyberattack the company experienced last year. Of course, with product like the 2026 Range Rover P400 SE SWB on offer, it’s easy to see why.

After a week in the 2026 Land Rover Range Rover P400 SE SWB, luxury SUV gets a new definition.

You think you know luxury? I now I thought I knew luxury, until I drove my first Range Rover back in 1998. Having just spent a week with the Belgravia Green 2026 Land Rover Range Rover P400 SE SWB reviewed here, I can tell you while times have changed and tech too — the Range Rover is still the standard by which all other “luxury” SUVs should be measured.

Now here, it might be useful to outline my definition of luxury as it applies to this category. Fine materials figure prominently, but so does performance, sophistication and the ability to deliver all of it with a capability few other products can match. Which is exactly where Land Rover’s Range Rover distinguishes itself from every other pretender to the luxury sport utility vehicle throne.

A Range Rover, even with its supple leather upholstery, bountiful cornucopia of amenities, sophisticated design language and undeniable cachet, will take you pretty much anywhere you’d like to go on this planet — and bring you back home — in supreme comfort. In my estimation, when it comes to SUVs, that’s the true definition of luxury.

Powertrains and Fuel Economy

Our Range Rover ran a 395-horsepower all-wheel drive powertrain.

As denoted by its P400 designation, “my” example of the Range Rover ran a 395-horsepower all-wheel drive powertrain. The heart of the system was a turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine, fitted with an alternator hybrid electric motor. This component also served as the starter and generator. A ZF eight-speed automatic transmission completed the system.

Maximum torque output, quoted at 406 lb-ft, was available at 2,000 rpm, which enabled the 5,240-lb Rover to pull off with ease. This also enabled a quoted maximum towing capacity of 7,715 pounds. Running a 48-volt architecture classified the powertrain as a mild hybrid EV system.

EPA quoted fuel economy was 19 miles per gallon in the city, 24 on the highway and 21 overall. That last number came pretty close to my experience: I saw 20 mpg over the course of my week with the Range Rover.

Interior Accommodations

Standard tech features included the aforementioned 13.1-inch touchscreen infotainment interface running Land Rover’s newest Pivi Pro interface.

My Range Rover was fitted with Ebony perforated Windsor leather (AKA black), with Natural Black Birch veneers. In my experience, black interior treatments can sometimes come across as a bit stark.

This can be particularly so in a minimalist environment such as that currently embraced by Range Rover. However, the architecture of the Rover’s passenger compartment, along with the quality of the materials employed, eliminated that possibility altogether.

Settling into the Range Rover, the word “money” subliminally manifested itself in my head. Soft leather upholstered every logical surface, complemented by satin silver metallic accents and the aforementioned Black Birch wood trim. With buttons were few and far between, the look evoked elegance, in a wholly contemporary fashion.

With buttons were few and far between, the look evoked elegance, in a wholly contemporary fashion.

The only buttons present were a prominent start/stop button on the center console, another on the upper dash for the emergency flashers and two more for the upper and lower (yes there were two) glove compartments.

The steering wheel hosted two small haptic panels along with a toggle for the cruise control system and a cylindrical dial to raise and lower the volume of the audio system. All other functions were managed by a 13.1-inch touchscreen mounted centrally on the dash in a manner which gave it the appearance of floating unsupported.

Passenger comfort was supreme at all four seating positions. Ingress and egress were eased by the Rover’s air suspension system’s access mode, which completely lowered the Rover.

Outward visibility was enhanced by what Land Rover’s market people term the Command Driving Position. This mounted the seats higher than in most standard SUVs, providing a clear view over traffic and potential obstacles (as if the towering Range Rover didn’t already sit high enough.)

Further improving the cabin’s comfort was a solar attenuating windshield, which helped keep the Rover cooler. The Range Rover afforded 43 cubic feet of cargo capacity behind the second row and 77.8 cubic feet of carrying capacity with that second row folded. As for the warranty, Land Rover grants four years or 50,000 miles of “bumper to bumper” as well as powertrain coverage

Comfort, Convenience & Safety Tech

Standard tech features included the aforementioned 13.1-inch touchscreen infotainment interface running Land Rover’s newest Pivi Pro interface. Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were also included as standard. The system supported Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant too.

Additional standard tech included a head-up display and a 13.7-inch reconfigurable digital instrumentation display. In-dash navigation, wireless smartphone charging and SiriusXM satellite radio were also standard.

Furthermore, the Rover featured the optional 35-speaker Meridian “3D” audio system, which included noise canceling devices in the headrests. Automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control were also fitted as standard equipment.

Driving Impressions

Writing about Range Rovers is beginning to tax my ability to come up with new synonyms for the word “smooth”. I’ve pretty much worn my lexicon out in that regard. However, thumbing my Thesaurus (yeah, I’m old-school like that), reveals words such as: Suave, Polished, Sophisticated, Graceful, Debonair, Urbane, Charming, Slick, Poised … to name a few.

All of which leaves me to quote one Ferris Bueller on his day off; “If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.”

Which, at the risk of committing a series of anthropomorphisms, fit the Rover perfectly. The palatial SUV is all of that and more. Its acceleration was effortless, its steering was both accurate and true, it cornered with grace and braked with confidence. All while exhibiting exceptional competence on city streets, highways and rugged backwoods trails

In Summary

All of which leaves me to quote one Ferris Bueller on his day off; “If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.” For the 2026 model year, Land Rover Range Rover P400 SE SWB pricing starts at $113,000. Price as tested for the example I drove was $129,965.
