With an all-new Volkswagen Tiguan arriving for 2025, the German automaker is offering a Tiguan Wolfsburg Edition special edition as the current model wraps up its run. The Tiguan’s line-up consists of ascending S, SE, SE R-Line Black, and SEL R-Line trim levels, starting at $30,305 for S and topping out at $40,305 for the SEL R-Line. The new SE trim, which starts at $33,005. But the Wolfsburg Edition will sticker lower, starting at $30,995 for front-wheel drive and $32,495 with 4Motion all-wheel drive.
WHAT YOU GET
While Volkswagen didn’t provide any photos of the new model, we do know that it seems to represent a good value.
Offered in four exterior colors— Atlantic Blue, Deep Black Pearl, Platinum Grey, and Pure White — the Tiguan Wolfsburg Edition wears machine-finished five-spoke over gloss-black 18-inch wheels. \Silver mirror caps and front bumper accents, black window surrounds, chrome door and bumper inserts finish the exterior upgrades. Climb inside and you’ll find its black leatherette seating is offset by orange stitching. There are also small interior upgrades you’ll appreciate, such as illuminated scuff plates and 30-color LED ambient lighting, lifted from the Tiguan’s R-Line models.
So, this is basically a trim package.
But you’ll also get the usual goodies found in the Tiguan SE, but for a couple grand less. They include keyless entry, and push-button start, remote start, power tailgate, 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, SiriusXM, auto-dimming mirror, rain-sensing wipers, and heated washer nozzles.
But note that the driveline remains unchanged, which is no big surprise given this model is heading for the exit.
In this case, it’s VW’s omnipresent turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder rated here at 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard.
WHAT’S NEXT
The Tiguan is Volkswagen’s bestselling vehicle in the U.S. last year, selling 76,228 units, although retail volume was down nearly 14% from the 88,577 Tiguans sold in 2022. For the second quarter of 2024, VW moved 21,038 Tiguans, up 11% from the same period last year.
That makes what comes next especially important.
The third generation of Volkswagen’s compact crossover is expected to be revealed here soon, although it’s already been shown in Europe. But which version is coming to America isn’t yet known. Aside from fresh styling inside and out, look for a plug-in hybrid (or PHEV) powertrain that with as much as 62 miles of range in electric-only mode. Look for the PHEVs to be offered at the top of the Tiguan line in SE and SEL R-Line trim. But there’s little doubt that it employs Volkswagen’s MQB Evo platform.
Look for more details to be revealed soon.
