Alfa Romeo Reveals New Intensa Special Series Package

by | January 13, 2025

While the Detroit Auto Show highlights the more rough-and-tumble Jeep brand, another Stellantis product, Alfa Romeo, made news at the Brussels Motor Show in Belgium. It revealed the new Intensa Special Series for the 2025 Tonale, Stelvio and Giulia.

Alfa Romeo’s offering its new Intensa Special Series package for the 2025 model year.

The new package doesn’t add any horsepower, but it does give each of the trio a performance-oriented look inside and out. The vehicles get a two-tone look emphasizing the brand’s “intense” history, the company said.

“From legendary cars like the 33 Stradale and Giulia to our unforgettable triumphs in F1 and DTM, Alfa Romeo’s legacy is defined by iconic Italian design, performance and passion,” said Chris Feuell, head of Alfa Romeo North America. “The new Intensa special series captures this spirit with its bold two-tone design, honoring the intensity that makes Alfa Romeo a global icon.”

The brand claims the new package is a “stunning reminder” of its commitment to being a style leader while offering an impressive driving experience. However, in the U.S. it might be — at best — a reminder that the brand is still around.

The Intensa package includes a variety of two-tone-based upgrades for the exterior and interior of the vehicles.

Each vehicle — Tonale, Stelvio and Giulia — gets a variety of exterior and interior upgrades designed to give it a more aggressive look. The Tonale and Stelvio get 20-inch black alloy wheels with a light-gold diamond-cut finish while the Giulia get 19-inchers.

All three vehicles get black brake calipers with light-gold Alfa Romeo script, black sport seats with tan contrast stitching, a two-tone leather-wrapped steering wheel with tan accents, a tan-colored armrest with the embroidered Intensa logo, a 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system and more.

In terms of actual performance, the Tonale can be equipped with either the 1.3-liter 285-horsepower PHEV powertrain with 33 miles of all-electric range or the new 2.0-liter 268-horsepower turbocharged gas engine. The Tonale Intensa starts at $44,495 while the plug-in hybrid model comes in at $54,495.

Meanwhile, the Stelvio Intensa and the Giulia Intensa both feature the standard Q4 all-wheel drive, 8-speed automaticand 280-horsepower 306-lb.-ft.-of-torque turbocharged engine. The Stelvio version pricing starts at $55,395 and the Giulia’s pricing begins at $49,995.

Since its return to the U.S. about a decade ago, Alfa Romeo’s struggled to capture the attention of the American buying public. That didn’t change in 2024. The brand’s sales fell 19% for the full-year 2024, including a massive 38% drop in the fourth quarter.

Stellantis’ U.S. sales fell 15% overall for 2024 with every brand sold in the U.S., except Fiat, posting negative numbers, including Jeep which fell 9% falling to 587,725 vehicles compared with 642,924 units in 2023.

For comparison, Alfa Romeo sold just 8,865 units in 2024, down from 10,898 vehicles in 2023. Stellantis is struggling to figure out what brands it needs in the U.S. and what can go. The dispute essentially cost CEO Carlos Tavares his job more than a year before his announced 2026 retirement.
