2025 Audi A6 Avant Proves Wagons Still Have Swagger

by | March 5, 2025

Audi spearheads the launch of the 2025 Audi A6 lineup with the Avant as the firm gives it a styling revamp and higher levels of technology to help it stay ahead of the competition and be a key player in its broader transformation.

The venerable station wagon was once a common sight on roads with the body style being a popular choice among family buyers looking for more room and versatility in their vehicle purchase. However, the appearance of utility vehicles and crossover vehicles ate a large slice of their market share and pushed these models close to extinction with only a few stragglers remaining in the market.

Audi is one of the few companies that still offer wagons for sale with the company’s Avant models creating a cult following among consumers. The A6 Avant will be the latest Avant to appear and it promises to offer buyers more of everything including more size when it makes its eventual appearance in showrooms.

Audi A6 Avant arrives with a fresh suit and a bolder personality

The 2025 A6 Avant will be the only version of the revamped A6 that will be initially offered with the wagon being tapped to play the role of spearhead model for the moniker. Audi also chose to use a brown colored car for its press images an interesting choice that allows the wagon to have a more sinister edge especially with the blacked-out accents in the larger front grille. The side profile is sporty and it also provides a hint at a dropped plan to call the model the A7 Avant as part of a scrubbed strategy to differentiate its ICE and EV models. The rear gets a large lightbar and real exhaust tips with Audi saying this iteration of the A6 Avant is the most aerodynamic it has ever made.

The look is rounded off with either a base set of 18-inch wheels or bigger 21-inch forged alloy wheels with higher trim levels getting a special tri-color treatment. A sedan will eventually be offered but the company will be launching that particular version of the A6 later on. The interior shares alot with the A5 Avant with the A6 getting that model’s 14.5-inch infotainment system, the accompanying 10.9-inch passenger screen, and 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster. The 2025 model gets 30% more sound insulation but without the weight penalty.

Avant blends performance with efficiency

Audi chose to reveal performance details with its release but the prominent catch here is that they were European powertrains with a 2.0 liter TDI diesel being part of the engine lineup. Potential engines for a possible U.S. version (the brand didn’t confirm if it will be coming stateside) will be focused exclusively on the gasoline engines with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder serving as the base engine. It produces 201 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque with Audi saying it gets more fuel economy thanks to the Miller system but at the cost of not getting access to all-wheel drive.

Buyers looking for all-wheel drive and a noticeable power boost will be directed to the beefier 362 hp 3.0-liter V6. The V6 not only matches the power seen in the new S5 Avant but it also gets all-wheel drive for enhanced four-season capability and a 48V hybrid system. Audi says the V6 is capable of making the A6 Avant reach 62 mph in 4.7 seconds before topping out a 155 mph. Rear-wheel steering is also included with the nifty technology being paired with an adaptive air suspension, and brake-by-wire technology.

The V-6 version can be equipped with an optional Quattro Sport differential to fully distribute torque between the rear wheels, sharpening handling and delivering a more dynamic driving experience. The MLB Evo platform is gone, replaced with the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), which its A5 sibling also uses.

Audi confirmed that it will be opening the order book for the 2025 Audi A6 Avant in Europe this month. Pricing for the model will start at €58,000 for the four-cylinder gas engine with the diesel starting slightly higher at €61,700. Pricing for the V6 wasn’t released but look for it to command a sizable premium over the four-cylinder.
