Ford’s legacy of bringing its track knowledge to the streets continued Friday with the reveal of the 2027 Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible — it’s first new open-air high-performance machine in more than a decade.

The automaker made waves with the Dark Horse SC coupe just a few years ago, giving Mustang aficionados a track-ready beast putting out 795 horsepower and 660 lb-ft of torque. The company’s history of performance now has an update was the Dark Horse SC convertible gets a bit a fine tuning to make it a machine fit for the streets.
Arie Groeneveld, Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible chief engineer, said the new model is a fantastic grand tourer evolved from the original coupe, during a preview of the new convertible Wednesday morning in Detroit. He added with the Dark Horse coupe all the pieces were in place to produce this vehicle.
“We think customers have waited long enough,” he said. “It was back in like 2013 since we’ve had the last one, and we had all theelements we needed with this opportunity to bring it out, so it really seemed like a natural time to put it together.”
It’s elemental
The new Dark Horse SC convertible is powered by a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 putting out 795 horsepower.
The components Groeneveld referenced begin with what’s under the hood: a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 delivering 795 hp and 660 lb-ft of torque, just like the coupe. It’s paired with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission and the result is the highest performance Mustang convertible ever.
To ensure the ride and handling are superb, it received a specially tuned next-generation MagneRide suspension as well as magnesium tower-to-tower brace across the engine to lend stiffness necessary to handle the power.
The result is a “smooth, comfortable ride when cruising and a firmly planted feel the moment you lean into the accelerator,” officials noted. While its performance roots are in racing, Groeneveld reiterated it’s not designed “for setting lap times, we’ve engineered it to be the ultimate top-down grand touring machine.”

Big power means big style
The cabin of the new Dark Horse SC convertible is filled with carbon fiber accents reminding passengers just what kind of vehicle they’re in.
The supercharged 5.2 means everyone around you will know what’s coming before you actually arrive — the sound is potent when crusing and raucous when pushed. The Dark Horse SC always looks ready to bolt with its low and aggressive stance accentuated by the rumble from under the hood.
This convertible means a new experience, which also means new available colors, including Precision Purple exterior paint, a unique brake caliper color, and premium interior details available in Black Onyx and Space Gray — the Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible is designed to make a statement before, during, and after it is seen, according to Ford officials.
“We are giving a new generation of drivers a premium, high-performance street machine that is just as fun to be seen in as it is to drive,” said Ryan Shaughnessy, Ford Mustang brand marketing manager.
However, what no one has seen is the price. While the new model can be ordered this fall for arrival next Spring, Ford officials declined to offer any pricing information. However, they did note that they’ll “build to demand” so if you’ve got what’s expected to be a $100,000-plus check ready, they won’t tell you no.
