Toyota announced its applying major discounts to the 2025 bZ4X.

The Toyota bZ4X was supposed to be Toyota’s spearhead into the EV market with the model debuting new generation EV technology while also providing customers an offering that could balance range with cargo hauling capability. However, the launch of the bZ4X has not gone smoothly and sales for the model have been moribund as a result.

The Japanese auto giant has been paying close attention to these woes and has confirmed it will be offering massive discounts on the model for 2025 in an attempt to lure in more customers while also addressing the broader slowdown in EV sales demand at the same time.

The discounts are part of broader changes the company is doing to boost sluggish demand with its twin the Lexus RZ also suffering from sluggish demand.

Some of the initiatives that Toyota is rolling out focus on discounts with the company confirming that it’s offering a $10,000 lease cash discount for the model. That’s a notable amount but a prominent catch is that only certain regions apply for that particular price cut with Toyota focusing on key EV markets like Los Angeles, Denver, Portland, and San Francisco.

In addition to the discount, Toyota is also offering 0% APR for up to six years as part of an attempt to make the leasing experience easier for buyersOn top of this, if you finance with Toyota (Toyota Financial), you can earn an extra $2,500 in rebates (TFS Finance Subvention Cash). Even better, the offer can be stacked with 0% APR for even more savings. The discount programs are also a sign that Toyota is taking the slowdown in EV demand very seriously and making the EV more enticing by removing some of the hassles in the buying and leasing process will be noticed by customers.

Toyota is also sharpening its focus on the hybrid vehicle market as more automakers enter the segment due to changes to their electrification plans.

With Toyota focusing the bulk of its efforts on the financial experience for customers, look for the updates on the bZ4X itself to be very minimal. It’s not known what Toyota has in store for the CUV itself, but expect the company to potentially make some adjustments to the packaging with the company removing unpopular options and focusing on others. Also look for some minor updates to make their way into the interior but until the company decides to formally reveal what changes they made, we get to wait and see.

In the meantime, Toyota will be focusing the bulk of its efforts on the hybrid vehicle market with Toyota doubling down on its attempts to secure its spot in the segment as more automakers are forced to change their EV plans and embrace a newfound love of hybrid and PHEV vehicles to maintain a steady stream of profits to make up for slowing EV demand.
