The Maserati GranTurismo impressed the world with its elegant looks and slick coupe profile when it made its debut in 2023, and it’s now joined by the Cabrio.

The Maserati GranTurismo impressed the world with its elegant looks and slick coupe profile when it made its debut in 2023. But where the GranTurismo goes, the droptop GranCabrio model is never far behind.

Maserati has continued this established tradition with the 2024 Maserati GranCabrio which raises the styling bar even higher and adds new technology and comfort to an established formula.

Dropping the top allows GranCabrio to shine with good looks

The exterior styling of the GranCabrio is shared with the GranTurismo coupe and as a result, the GranCabrio gets much of that model’s core DNA including the long hood and sweeping headlights with the side profile leading the eye to the squat rear end. The interior is also largely carried over from the coupe version too which means plenty of luxury and technology to help make the commute more comfortable and enjoyable.

2024 Maserati GranCabrio is droptop gorgeous with the top down

The main difference that separates the GranCabrio from its coupe counterpart is the folding fabric roof with Maserati confirming that buyers will have five different colors to choose from: Navy Blue, Dark Red, Black, Grey, and a fifth color that Maserati calls “Greige.” The top can be operated at speeds up to 31 mph and occupants are kept comfortable thanks to air vents mounted in the seat backs that blow air onto their necks like a scarf.

A rear-mounted wind blocker is also available, but it will prevent you from using the cramped rear seats to haul passengers. We suspect most GranCabrio owners won’t do that anyway so that sacrifice should be no problem for them.

The addition of the fabric top and its components causes the GranCabrio’s curb weight to increase by 359 lbs. Unlike other cases of vehicular weight gain, Maserati claims that the extra weight actually improves the vehicle’s weight distribution with the GranCabrio having a balance of 51/49 versus the coupe’s 52/48 figure.

Trofeo punches the golden ticket for GranCabrio performance

For the moment, the 2024 Maserati GranCabrio will only be available as a performance-focused Trofeo model. Unlike other GranCabrio models over the years, the 2024 model will be powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that makes 542 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque.

GranCabrio Trofeo interior is a mirror image of GranTurismo coupe’s but with a folding roof.

The V6 is shared with the GranTurismo and allows the droptop to make the sprint to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds which is 0.1 seconds slower than the coupe due to the extra weight of the top and some of the components needed to make the whole assembly work.

An 8-speed automatic transmission is standard and the 2024 GranCabrio will also offer all-wheel drive for the first time to help improve power delivery. While the race-bred Trofeo will be the lone trim level on the GranCabrio for now, look for that to change in the future.

Maserati has said in the past that the modular platform for the GranCabrio and GranTurismo was designed to easily accommodate EV and combustion powertrains so there’s a chance that an all-electric Folgore model and a lower-priced Modena model could come later to flesh the lineup out.

GranCabrio has McLaren Artura Spider in its sights

The 2024 model will be powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that makes 542 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque.

The 2024 Maserati GranCabrio will be entering a segment that has recently become a hotly contested battleground with its debut also coinciding with the recent appearance of another exotic cabrio that was revealed this week, the 2025 McLaren Artura Spider.

The Artura Spider is aiming for the same clientele as the GranCabrio with the Artura using a more powerful hybrid-equipped 690 hp 3.0-liter V6 to help enhance performance and fuel economy.

The Artura Spider also benefits from several upgrades including a pure electric driving mode that allows it to go 21 miles on pure electric power before the V6 kicks back in.

Maserati didn’t reveal official pricing for the 2024 GranCabrio but expect it to be a noticeable premium over the base GranTurismo Trofeo which starts at $190,000. On the flip side though, look for the figure to potentially be lower than the Artura Spider’s $273,800 base MSRP which could help give the Maserati an advantage when cross-shopped by potential customers.
