Volkswagen is bringing back the ID.Buzz. It pulled the all-electric microbus from its 2026 lineup due to slow sales. VW isn’t yet revealing prices for the 2027 model year but plans to offer a more interesting mix of trims, including a retro-inspired Tourer. Not looking to wait? You can get some great deals on 2025 leftovers.
Get ready to get Buzzed…again. After pulling the all-electric microbus from its 2026 line-up, Volkswagen is bringing the ID.Buzz back for the 2027 model year. And it’s come up with some new trim packages, including the new, camping-style Tourer trim which includes a fold-out bed.
VW launched the U.S. version of the van for 2025 but reality didn’t live up to its plans, sales falling well below expectations. That led the German maker to take a one-year reprieve. It remains to be seen whether VW will address some of the problems Buzz faced in its initial run, however notably high prices and low range.
For those who do like the electric van but just want a more affordable price tag, the good news is that there are some significant deals on leftover 2025 models to be had right now.
What’s news

If this van’s rockin’… The 2027 ID.Buzz Tourer will feature a fold-out mattress, among other camper-style features.
Volkswagen spent years struggling to come up with the right package to replace the original Microbus, an icon of the 1960 and ‘70s. It thought it struck gold with an early concept version of what became the ID.Buzz. But while the EV has done reasonably well in Europe and some other markets, analysts have criticized the strategy used for the U.S., VW offering only a 3-row version with fairly high content levels and a range of just 234 miles per charge in rear-wheel-drive configuration.
It’s yet to be seen if VW will find a way to extend range or address pricing – which range from $61,545 to $72,540. We won’t see hard numbers until shortly before the 2027 models go back on sale later this year.
What the automaker has announced is that there will be some welcome updates, including a new, Android-based infotainment system, dubbed ID.S 6, including revised navigation and faster response time. Somewhat surprisingly, the 2027 Buzz will retain its CCS charger port at a time when most automakers are beginning to migrate to the NACS standard – but buyers will get a free adapter which will let them plug into the vast Tesla Supercharger network.
The only notable design change: the 2027 models will come exclusively in two-tone paint combinations.
Forward into the past

The 2027 ID.Buzz Tourer also gets shades and a new Overnight function that allows some onboard features to keep operating.
For 2027, meanwhile, there’s a new trim line-up that includes the original rear-wheel-drive Pro S and all-wheel-drive Pro S Plus 4Motion, as well as what VW promises will be a more affordable base 4Motion package.
But what seems to be building buzz for Buzz is the new Tourer 4Motion which clearly is meant to harken back to the days of the original Microbus which was widely used as a home on wheels.
The ID.Buzz Tourer features a fold-out mattress, window shades and ventilation panels. There’s an easy-to-stow exterior table and chairs. And, taking advantage of the van’s large battery pack, motorists can trigger an Overnight mode to operate some onboard functions, such as climate control.

Great discounts available on 2025 leftovers
If the hefty price tag for the Buzz short-circuited your interest in the electric van you already have some good options available.
A quick search of leftover 2025 models in the Ann Arbor, Michigan area found quite a few new vans priced as much as $15,000 below sticker. Germain Volkswagen was advertising a Pro S model for $48,342, rather than the list of $62,342, a $14,000 cut. Some select models qualify for up to $7,500 in factory cash, along with discounts from the dealer. The money from the automaker is meant to make up for the federal tax credits that were phased out by Congress last September.
Of course, you might be able to find even more substantial deals on used and off-lease versions of the ID.Buzz – along with pretty much any EV at the moment.
